This new service lets you rent someone’s pool by the hour

Consider this the Airbnb for swimming pools. Swimply, a new swimming pool rental service, lets you book someone else’s swimming pool by the hour. So, you know what that means? No more trips to the public pool for you and your family!

This could be a great idea for anyone hoping to host an outdoor pool party or otherwise have access to some privacy while poolside. Pools rent by the hour, and much like with Airbnb, prices vary from listing to listing. Some pools have a minimum hour limit for a rental period, so be sure you read the listing thoroughly.

All you have to do to book a pool is go to the Swimply website and fill out information regarding the location, date, time and amount of people in attendance. Then, a list of available options in your area will appear, and the pool-perusing can begin.

The Swimply service is headquartered in New York, but you don’t have to be in the New York area to take advantage of this service. Pool owners all across the country have begun listing their pools for rental periods through the Swimply site. A quick search revealed pools available for rent in Nashville, Denver, Miami, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Savannah, Georgia.

You’ll have to search your city to see if there’s a pool available to rent by the hour near you!

The goal of Swimply, according to the site’s About page, is to make mini-getaways as accessible as coffee shops. “Whether you’re stuck at home with the kids, tired from a long day of work (or homework), or just bored, we want you to be able to teleport somewhere awesome with a few clicks of a button. We want mini-escapes to be as ordinary as visiting a cafe or a good nap. Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, it should only take a moment from the time you want to be somewhere happier until the time you actually are,” the website states.

While this sounds great in theory, pool owners seem to be left with a lot of questions.

Many who heard about the new service through social media had concerns regarding the liability of letting strangers swim in your pool.

Twitter user @gbarazowski posted an interesting question on Twitter, asking whether renting out your pool would increase your homeowner’s insurance:

Swimply addresses the insurance issue under the terms and conditions tab on their website. “Swimply recommends that Hosts obtain appropriate insurance for their Accommodations. Please review any insurance policy that you may have for your Accommodation carefully, and in particular, please make sure that you are familiar with and understand any exclusions to, and any deductibles that may apply for, such insurance policy, including, but not limited to, whether your insurance policy will cover the actions or inactions of or relating to Guests (and the individuals the Guest invites to the Accommodation, if applicable) while at your Accommodation.”

So, you’ll definitely want to have an understanding of your insurance policy before listing your pool online.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported that the company is gathering data to create an insurance program for users.

What do you think of the Swimply service? As a pool owner, would you rent out your pool? As a non-pool owner, would you take advantage of a private swim?
