This stray dog was found curled up in the snow keeping orphaned kittens warm
What’s better than a story about orphaned kittens getting rescued from the freezing cold? A story about a stray dog who helps to keep them warm, that’s what.
The canine hero of the moment was found curled up on the snowy roadside by a woman in Ontario, Canada. When she looked closer, she realized the dog was wrapped around five orphaned kittens, intent on keeping them warm in the icy temperatures.
The concerned woman then rescued all six of the animals, taking them to the Pet and Wildlife Rescue center in Chatham, Ontario. By that time, the bond between the stray dog and his kitty companions was clear. And there was little doubt that the dog’s actions had saved the kittens’ lives.
“It’s truly heartwarming,” a spokesperson from the shelter told The Dodo. “It had been a very cold night so these kittens would have had a very hard time surviving. Our staff sees many difficult situations on a daily basis and stories like this one make every heartache worth it.”
The kittens are being treated for flea and worm infestations, but they’re otherwise healthy, and their protector continues to check in on them.
The shelter posted some cute pics of the dog and the tiny kittens on their Facebook page, and they’ve been flooded with comments. “Such a proud Mom,” wrote one user, while another said, “What an absolute beautiful soul.”
“She deserves lots of cuddles and treats,” commented another Facebook follower. We couldn’t agree more.
It’s not the first time a dog has found love with a litter of kittens. In 2017, the Williams family from Utah shared the sweetest pictures of their malamute Flora cuddling up to four foster kittens, Roxy, Iggy, Bowie and Glamour. Do we need any more proof that the idea that dogs and cats can’t get along is nonsense?

Meanwhile, if none of the animals at Chatham, Ontario’s Pet and Wildlife Rescue center are claimed by owners, they’ll be put up for adoption. How amazing would it be if someone could take all six of them?
