This new avocado salsa might be even better than guacamole

Tostitos

Is there anything better than your favorite binge-worthy show on Netflix, a margarita and a giant bowl of guacamole and chips? While I would normally answer, “no way,” Tostitos just introduced a new salsa that is giving plain ol’ guacamole a run for its avocados.

The new Tostitos Avocado Salsa is made with real avocados and chunks of garden vegetables, merging the guac staple of avocados with a thick and chunky salsa. It is available now in 15-ounce jars for a suggested retail price of $3.99. A Tostitos spokesperson confirmed to us that it will be a permanent addition to the brand’s lineup of dips.

I tried it out myself and, let me tell you, it is absolutely delicious. It’s creamy like guacamole but is loaded with a salsa flavor that makes it taste quite different from what you’d make at home. It’s got jalapeño peppers as an ingredient, so it has a bit of a kick but I’m not a spicy icy food fan and was able to eat it with no problem. It also has green tomatoes instead of red, which adds to the green coloring and adds a slight sweetness to the flavor profile.

Simply put, Tostitos Avocado Salsa tastes more like a quality restaurant salsa than guacamole, but thanks to the addition of the avocado, it’s creamy and thick. Also, at 45 calories per two-tablespoon serving, it won’t damage your diet too much in the right portions.

Before you think opening a jar of salsa with chunks of avocado seems like a bad idea, given avocado’s ability to quickly brown, I had the opened jar in my fridge for a few days and it was still totally fine. If you’re having people over (or just a really fun night by yourself), however, I don’t think it will last long enough for you to worry about it anyway.

Along with the new salsa, Tostitos is also launching brand new tortilla strips available in 13-ounce bags for a suggested retail price of $4.29. The thickest chip ever made by Tostitos, they’re perfect for dipping in the new Avocado Salsa and, according to the brand, “can stand up to the heartiest dips.”

If jarred avocado salsa sounds delicious to you, but you want options, there are several other brands that have similar dips for sale.

For instance, Good Foods also makes an avocado salsa, which Target is selling for around $4.49 for 12 ounces. Herdez makes a guacamole salsa, though theirs appears to be a bit less thick, as it says it “pours right from the jar.”

Of course, if you’d rather dip your chips in traditional guacamole, it’s not hard to make yourself. We found two recipes that are favorites on the internet and are incredibly easy to make.
