You can now buy strawberry rhubarb gin—here’s how to drink it
If you’re like me, you’re much better at drinking cocktails than you are at making them. My friends all know not to ask me because any drink I make will not only be way too strong, but will also probably not be very good.
That’s why I stock my kitchen with pre-flavored alcohols because all I have to do when pressed into making a cocktail is add a bit of soda water and it looks like I know what I’m doing. So when I stumbled upon a rhubarb and strawberry spirit I could use to fool everyone into thinking I’m a good cocktail maker, you better believe I got pretty excited.
That’s right, friends. Rhubarb and strawberry gin now exists and I’m pretty sure it will make all summer drinks from here on out pretty darn amazing. The gin comes from the brand Boodles and is available now in upscale restaurants and bars and for presale purchase at Caskers. The 70-proof gin costs $25.99 and will begin shipping on Aug. 16.
This summer-ready pink gin is a blend of botanicals and features garden-fresh rhubarb and juicy strawberries. Boodles says it’s “bursting with berries” and delivers delightfully sweet and tart fruity flavors and subtle notes of lemon, currant jam and juniper. Unlike rosé and pink Prosecco, the gin is a flavor-forward gin, so it’s perfect for both wine lovers and cocktail enthusiasts.
Boodles suggests adding the gin to lemonade or tonic water or enjoying it in an elegant signature martini like their Boodles Bubbly or London Lemonade. Both recipes are below:
Boodles Bubbly
Ingredients:
1 oz Boodles Rhubarb & Strawberry Gin
¼ oz fresh lemon juice
¼ oz simple syrup
Champagne, to top
Directions:
Combine gin, lemon juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled champagne flute or coupe. Gently top with champagne. Garnish with a rhubarb candy spiral.
London Lemonade
Ingredients:
2 oz Boodles Rhubarb & Strawberry Gin
4 oz fresh lemonade
club soda
Directions:
Combine gin and lemonade in a tall glass over ice. Top with club soda. Stir and garnish with a strawberry.
